Ok all. Si is hoping to confirm with the venue today that dates in September are ok. Main focus is weekend of 14th at the moment. If all sorted then we will put up a new Midlands Meet thread for final details, hotels etc. I did find a tidy looking little hotel almost on the doorstep at £55 a room and will do some more work on that.

Martin, can you edit this and transfer to the new thread when you've set it up. Thanks.

Ok, things are coming together for the Midlands meet. The venue is confirmed as available with flexibility on dates. From what we've seen so far the 14th September looks like the favourite so we're going to proceed on that basis for the moment. That being the case can people simply confirm if they are available for September 14th. If NOT then please just tell us in a post what weekends in September you ARE available as an alternative.

Si7's brother owns an airfield in Nuneaton which will be the venue.

    http://www.stokegoldingairfield.co.uk/

Current thinking is that we will have a family friendly event with his brother looking to organise a BBQ and other stuff to make it into a fun day for people working at the airfield and all of us. We might be able also to organise some day time stuff as there are lots of interested folks on site with stuff like RC planes etc. So Si and I will sort all of that side of things out as we get nearer the date.

For the moment, tell us if you intend to come and also who you'll be bringing so we can finalise numbers for catering etc. We'll sort out later whether there'll be a small fee for food or not and, similarly, whether we get donations from other people attending towards fireworks.

As usual, some will arrive early in the day to set up and depending on what if any entertainment is available people can arrive when they like. Expect firing to be anytime after 9.

Once we've surveyed the site, and checked details of flying arrangements, we'll sort out what we do about rockets. It is an ideal site due to the size and it would be good to do something spectacular but we need to make sure that we don't litter a working runway with sticks! Nigel has suggested we also do similar to previous events where people can buy an RP 100 shot or similar at a discount to be fired in multiples as a finale. We'll sort that later. If it does end up being an event with others coming to watch then I suggest we also do some sort of organised display based on what we are all donating so we can finalise details as the weeks progress.

There are hotels in the area. I found two decent quality pub type places within 5 miles and at the moment each has a number of rooms available from around £50. I suspect that some people will travel up/down and back but some of us will stay over as usual to make the most of the drinking opportunities!

I think that's all for now!

Edited thread J, may as well keep this one going rather than create a new one

Will ask James to create its own sub forum in the meet section

    Just a comment/thought/suggestion

The Festival of Fireworks at Catton Hall is on 7th September, and it's only 20-30miles/30mins max from the airfield. If you haven't been to this, you truly do not know what you're missing!!! It must be the most extravagant/complex annual night of fireworks after the London NYE efforts. But 4 or 5x ten+ minute displays, not just the one show.

I mention this as a reminder, whilst people are trying to sort out a meet date, in case folk don't want to miss it, to steer away from the 7th. Or... I assume you always do meets on a Saturday? Just wondered if Sunday could be a possibility, and do both evenings over the weekend?

    Just throwing it out there!

Are you related to Anthony Perkins Brocade Knight (bk)???

A few of us went last year to Catton Hall, it was brilliant. I think the plan is to go again this year.

Ok folks, I have been asked to turn up at this meet as si7 is concocting a little pyrotreat for me which i'll be more than happy to fire and enjoy;its a Golden Lion volcano fountain fan of pagoda mountain gold and crackling cat3 25m display firework fountains, hmm sounds interesting! It wouldnt be the same without me it just wouldnt;):firework1:

Guess who's actually been to find this airfield this avo? Definitely out in the sticks, no-one to complain! Yet only ten mins from the ladyfriend's place. And the little hotel down the same lane is unbelievable convenient, if totally bizarre in its existence! Not that i need a room. So thinking definite for me coming!

Things are developing here. Hoping to get out to view the site with Si, Stu and PyroBoris on Saturday. With Si and Stu's wizardry with a fuse and a hot glue gun we might be looking at some creative fusing experiments like this as part of a showcase. We'll check the site before agreeing structure of event and will let you know shortly.

The lovely little pub/hotel I saw was the Royal Arms, little country pubs with flags out the front, purpose built 14bedroom lodge round the back, all looked in very good nick, having driven round the back. It's 2.7 miles along the same lane, going by google - http://www.royalarms.co.uk/ (cancel the offer pop-up)
But also just found this, Apple Orchard Farm, practically across from the airfield - http://www.appleorchardfarm.co.uk/index.html

In terms so of pyro I could bring, I already said maybe my last 4 Wild Boars from Golden Lion. But I have a friend who is seeming eagre to come along and chip-in with something too. So the question is... how many people coming have never seen a Kimbolton Steel Rainbows in the flesh? Or have you had one at a meet before?

I'm not trying to go out of my way to not bring stuff available from Galactic! It's more a case of... what have I got that my friends and family have already seen at home displays, so they won't miss not seeing it again... but even more a case of... if you chaps haven't seen these things... I'll gladly share them with real fans. Because the Wild Boars are now extinct, and as far as I could tell, a less classy triangular version seemd more readily available than the rectangular ones I've got. And the Steel Rainbows are probably still available, but bloody steep at £75, so probably rarely seen, whereas I acquired some for £50each, so might suggest that to my chum!

I had a Steel Rainbow couple of years back, very novel, it was the one firework that was asked about after the show, would love to see another if it's going to be OK to bring. Was not sure about the odd fountain start though? Guess it is a mine of sorts..

All stuff welcome at the meets Brocade Knight (bk). Everyone appreciates seeing something rare. You're right that it's the ideal place to share interesting bits with real fans.

Might try and hunt down some pre 2008 men shun to bring if I can;i'll keep my eyes open for any rarities still in the open that I can lay my hands on:)
